Ok, I don't scrapbook very often because I don't have children and just make albums of vacations, etc. However, this year my family is planning to come to my house for Christmas. (This is a first!) I have young neices and nephews. This is a PERFECT scrapbooking opportunity!
This may sound like dumb question, but I really don't take that many photos of people. When I do at the holidays, they are always those group shots of everyone sitting on the floor unwrapping their gifts and you don't get any faces in the pictures because everyone is looking down. How do most of you get some really good pictures for your albums?
Got any tips? Do you take LOTS of photos in hopes of getting SOME good ones?
I'm looking forward to a good time with my family and having a nice Christmas scrapbook to remember it by.
Thanks for your ideas!

Great questions, Daylene. My son is getting married at the end of Dec. and I want to buy a GOOD camera to take snapshots all weekend. I, too, am wondering how to get those wonderful pictures without them looking POSED. There will be a professional photographer at the wedding and the brunch afterwards, but I want to get pictures of the entire weekend, rehearsal dinner, hanging out at the hotel, grandchildren, new family, and the whole bit. I'd appreciate any tips.

i would say take a lot of pictures. maybe even give the kids a disposible camera. on the carol duvall show they did a segment on using the not so good pictures to make cards. they stamped on them, cut them up and put them back together for the card.

Well, for pictures of people opening gifts, it's easy...just set up the shot, then call their name fairly loudly. They'll look up surprised, and you get a 'non posed' moment.:D And don't forget to carry that camera into the kitchen, where often the women congregate, and definitely bring it to the dining area. You could do photos of everyone as they arrive, when they least expect it.;) And DO throw in a few posed shots, kids together, families together, then the whole lot of you together!*G* OH...and also MAKE SURE YOU HAND THE CAMERA TO SOMEONE ELSE TO TAKE YOUR PICTURE TOO!!!!! Maybe ask the DH to sometimes take the camera, to catch the guys in action and to take some shots of you when you're not expecting it. OR, get a disposable just for him! Ooo, this sounds like a wonderful project to finally get you hooked on scrapping, girlfriend!!!:D

Daylene and Barbara...
They gave you all the great ideas and tips... Disposable cameras today, take awesome pictures, no need for an expensive camera, unless you already own one.... Just remember that there is never a bad picture, because you captured a moment... Granted you can get bad pictures from the shutter speed being to slow.. But with disposables, you don't have to worry about that.. As for worrying about not getting there face when they are opening, don't worry, you will get enough of there face while they are opening, and with the description of the picture it will say it all... YOU definitely want some posed shots for family groupings and even after they have opened up a present, especially if it is a special gift!!! What makes a scrapbook so great, is your journaling and your layout!!! Good luck, and have fun!!! Scrapping is as much fun as stamping!!! What is nice is when you can incorporate them together!!

Barbara, if you want to obtain a variety of photos from your son's wedding that are not posed and extremely fun to look at you might try the idea we used for our own son's wedding.
We put disposable cameras on each table and asked the guests to take pictures at random. The results were fantastic and the cost was not extreme. We ended up with more pictures of the guests and captured shots that a professional photographer would not shoot.
Just assign one person to pick up the cameras at the end of the evening so they don't get left on the table or carried out by the guests. We put a card with the camera explaining the procedure and what we wanted them to do. It was a huge success.
Just an idea.

Thanks, Carolyn, for the wonderful idea. I'll do this, too, at the rehearsal dinner which will be mainly for out-of-town family and guests, and I'll put a few cameras in the hospitality room at the hotel. What fun to have a lot of pictures of the people who have come so far to be with us -- the people we see least often.
