Are y'all ready for a new Challenge? :) For those of us that like making cards, it's been a busy year so far. First we made our New Year's cards (which I made during the month of January!*LOL*), then it was Valentine's Day, followed by St. Patrick's Day, with Easter coming in right behind! Now that all the cards are finished, let's try our hand with tags! :D
I know we've done the Tag Challenge before, but now that we've all seen some great art tags, I thought it might be fun to re-visit this Challenge. You can use any stamps you'd like, you can use any tags you'd like (including hand made ;) ) and you can use any embellishments you'd like. BUT... :D Yep, can't forget the little "hitch" we put in most of our challenges, now can we? For THIS Challenge, we want you to think...PINK! You may use other colors, but the main color of your art tag must be pink! You can add a touch of green, or a bit of lavender...even a touch of gold or yellow to highlight your design (or a touch of any other color). But when we look at it, we want to see PINK! You can stamp your design in black, or brown, or any other color...as long as your art is basically...yep, you guessed it, PINK! :D Add glitter...or don't! Add fibers...or don't! But when we look at your tag, we want to think..."Gee...that's PINK!"
Winter is behind us now, and pink will help us ALL think SPRING! So let's put on our thinking caps, grab some pink stuff, and get to tagging it! In pink, of course! Are y'all ready to Think Pink? Then let the Challenge begin!!!

Yeah! A new challenge ... pink would not be my first choice for a tag (or even a card) so this will good. Ooo, I just remembered there is a distress ink in tattered rose. Hmm ... wonder if it will be PINK enough? :p
Time to play!

*LOL* I know what you mean Daylene, about pink being rough for a tag. In fact, I have NEVER done any "pink" work! Ah, but THAT'S what makes it a Challenge, right??? Hmmm, now do I even OWN a pink ink pad???*VBG*

OK - Is there a "size" to these tags? I have may "smaller ones" and would love to "pink" some of them up - so...if there is a size limit please tell !! Otherwise - I may put up some "mini-pinks's". I love Pink!

Wow. Pink. Hmmm. That will be a challenge as it's my least favorite color of the spectrum. Talk about getting me out of my comfort zone;)

Zooflorida im sure you will come up with something pink even though you dont seem to be a pinl lover. i can assure you neither am ia pink lover, pink always seems difficult to come up with anything otstanding, my best i think is on posh gallery the magnolia face stamp what looks like a rose. i also used the paper scruching technique as a gentle background., regards Andrew O.

Here's my first 3 attempts...two scanned fine and the third had to be a digi-photo as it's 3-D and wouldn't scan at all! Can't wait to see what others come up with!
Forgot to say....stamps are all from Stampendous set (thought they were all Old POSH ones until I cleaned my Craft room and found the original box...did I mention that I don't like to throw anything away??) LOL

This is a pull-out tag with a vellum envelope, the idea came from Dee's new DVD!
First I cut out two tags from pink cardstock, one slightly larger than the other. I stamped the smaller of the two all over with a Posh flower, using Tim Holtz' Distress Ink in fired brick, stamping several times per inking to get a lighter color.
I used the Distress inks in Tattered Rose with a little Fired Brick to distress some white cardstock. I stamped the cat on it and cut out, and them more Posh flowers and *Just For You*, tore and adhered all to the tag. I also added the *meow* ribbon (it comes like that, I didn't stamp on it) and some eyelets, and matted the whole thing onto the larger pink tag. Then I added the ribbon on top!
The vellum envelope was stamped with the large and small cats with pink pigment ink and embossed with clear powder.
Stamp credits: "Just For You", flower from Posh, cats from Hot Potatoes.

Congratulations Annette. It is really easy to upload to the thread but you have to do it in the advanced mode.
Christine I LOVE your card. I picked up my DVD yesterday and sat right down and watched the whole thing. I want to make that envelope as well. I just have to figure out how! Even with the instructions right in front of me - OY - I'm a hands-on kind of a learner. That is so cute.
AnnetteMay - very nice. I wasn't going to participate but you both have me wanting to stamp in pink of all colors - THANKS CHAR! When I saws tags I thought great because I have a large paint chip with three small punched out tags (one of them from the die swap) sitting on my work table. Oh well - back to the drawing board - the pink drawing board. Stamping hugs to both of you artists!

This is the first time I've even attempted to do anything with Tags - actually got these bigger ones from Fav. craft store/die cutter to do something with in my daughters Bridal Shower book...these 3 were extras because they were too light to use in her book...sooo... come on now - I want to see MORE!
Great tags one & all so far. I even want to go get some more and try somthing different. :D

I just love all of the tags posted. The paint chips, the cats the pink! All so creative!
Here is my response to the challenge. It felt good getting out the supplies once again. I think I stretched the "tag" in the tag art. I folded two pink papers in half (the stack II) and then used the sizzix large crescent tag to cut a tag from each. But I place the folded side of the paper just inside the cutting line on the bottom of the tag. The result was a two layer tag folded at the bottom. Then I cut slits up from the folded side of the tag that were just longer than the width of the tag, so I could do a woven heart pocket. Then I layered duets colored using Dee's marvy markers.
Perhaps that was outside the challenge box;) but I certainly had fun, even with pink.
Smiles, Darby

How beautiful these tags are - a wonderful sight for a sore throat! ;) I've been in bed all day and the door bell rang and on my way back to bed I decided to have my Posh fix! These are just beautiful. As soon as I read all the other stuff I'm back to bed. What a day to be sick - we are having one of those PERFECT southern Orange County, California days!
Was having trouble uploading (file too large) will see how this turns out...used a Posh stamp for background, embossed and brayered over it...then used another Posh stamp duet I recd in a grab bag purchase on the site. Just need to add the name of the person receiving (under the white paper)...thank you!

My natural color palette is mostly greens, tans, browns, goldy-type colors whenever I stray over to pinks or purples I tend to never be satisfied with what I do. This is not so good because my darling daughter's favorite color is pink!
On another level - I am just learning to use my new fancy-schmancy scanner/copier/printer thingy, so putting the scan in this post is a challenge, too!
On the other hand, making the tag was fun. I used a faux batik on mulberry paper with the duet flower outline, stamped on vellum with one of the altered art stamps, used the clear lower case alphabet for the "joy" and the whole duet flower set for the finishing elements. Fun way to start my Sunday when I should be getting ready for church! LOL.

Thank you all for your kind comments. Iris folding is really very easy. It's fun and addicting. It's exciting because I never know exactly how it is going to turn out until it is finished. There is a very good tutorial at http://www.cardsandcrafts.freeservers.com/irisinst.html
She also has free templates that you can print or download.
Another great source is the Design Originals booklet "Iris Folding" by Lisa Vollrath.
You can make your own iris folding papers by just stamping on white copy paper.

I've been working on this for a couple of weeks. It's taken a couple of re-do's to get what I wanted. I hope everyone recognizes the Zinnia stamp! The other two are from Hero Arts and Plaid/Anna Griffin
The thread and the rim of the small tag are copper, which doesn't really show up. I also sprayed the surface with Russet Glitz Spritz (which is what that glob is on the top right corner). Depending on the light it looks either coppery or mauvey-pink.

Stamps: Posh: Splatter It Up; Carnation from Small Flowers; Squiggly border; "fabulous" from Greetings Stamps: Stampin Up: Miss You
Dee's Posh Pink and Baby Pink on border stamp and "fabulous"; second stamping of SU Pink Passion for Miss You and Splatter It Up: Embossed carnation with Pink Pearls EP from Stamp-N-Stuff on tag using white Color Box pigment ink. Went direct to paper with SU Mauve Mist on card base and edged pocket.

I am NOT a pink person, in fact, I'm not really a pastel person! But the hardest part of it was simply finding pink in my supplies!*LOL*Let's see, the pink background was stippled using 4 different pink pigment inks from my Petal Point pads. The "Friends" definition stamp in the background is Hero, and stamped using the ONLY VersaColor pad I own that's pink. The flowers are Posh, and I used the pinks from Dee's Signature line of markers to color DTR (and yes, I used artistic license to decide which colors were truely pink and which were lavender and then decided there WAS no lavender*wink*), then spritzed lightly and stamped onto 'trash' tags, cut out and mounted using pop dots. THEN I discovered that I owned exactly NO pink fibers! But I did have pink ribbon, so that's what ended up on my pink creation.*LOL* Boy, NEXT time I'm gonna pick a nice EASY color! :D
*ROFLMBO* Well, THAT didn't work, better get back to work learning how to use this new scanner!*LOL*

And I can't seem to get my file small enough for the boards to accept. I just HATE learning a new piece of equipment, but my old scanner won't work with XP so I have no choice. I"ll keep trying though, K?*LOL*

Linda,
Hooray! You got your tag online. And it's a beautiful one too. I like the idea of piercing holes on the rosebud.

the piercing of the rose is in the sizzix die. i still haven't figured out how to upload pictures to the gallery. why did i think i needed a new printer. i was doing ok with the old one.
thanks for the nice comments on the tag.

Linda, uploading to the gallery is the same as to the thread. It is a two step process; the second page let's you preview what you are uploading before you submit it for the the final time. If your photo will upload to the thread, it will upload to the gallery - it is the right size - under 100K. :)

daylene, it probably is too big and id will try to get it changed.

Once again, I am not a tag person but I had put together some shapes in handmade paper and as I was going through them I noticed that one set was, guess what.... pink! So I played with it a bit and here it is.

Is that ever cute? It looks like a small quilt square or diamond. Is it Paper or fabric?
silverfeather
04-14-2005, 12:06 PM
All are paper but the second from the back is stitched with a pink synthetic thread in a single thread loop stitch I guess you could call it. It is so that if you pull the one end the whole line of stitching will pull out. Only thing is that it does tend to ravel where you cut the line of stitching when you are cutting the paper.

Just caught up checking out the pink tags. Flora, Linda and Jeri - love them all- What is great is that there has been so much variety -in a pink way- with all of the tags

...and the tag is really more pink than it shows, I'm having a horrible time learning this new all in one machine! But I'm getting better, at least this one you can see an image, instead of a bunch of pixels! :D
Again, background stamp is Hero, flowers are Posh clear and raised on pop-dots. Ok, let's see if this works! :o

Yeah, Char! Looks great! I really do like the way you raised the flowers and arranged the verse on it. See, you just had to keep on working on it and you would get it done. Persistence pays.

I like! I have a friend stamp from another company and you've given me an idea. What of a scanner do you have? I know there is another member who is also having difficulty with her three-in-one scanner and I have an HP and when I scan my cards in I have a folder that all my card samples are stored in including the ones I do or the ones I take off the internet for examples, etc. Is this is the same one you all have. If so, I ALWAYS have to resize my initial scan. You did wonderfully with your pink tag! and now I am going to steal your idea. Sure is fun to play tag! :)
PS: Did you spritz your stamp before stamping the image?
i.r.stamper
04-15-2005, 04:22 PM
Yep, it's the faux watercolor look, I have fun doing those.*wink* The scanner problem is that I have to learn how to use a separate program to do what I want to do, and I just haven't had time to sit down and play with it.
And to my surprise, I find my tag to be unbalanced, and couldn't quite figure out why...until I just saw that the small metal charm that said "friends" that I had stuck on the upper right corner was MISSING! It's GONE. MY PRINTER ATE MY TAG EMBELLISHMENT!!!!! Ok, Ok, so it was probably my dog that ate it, but still, this printer has really been hard to get to like.*LOL*
Greetings!
I've completed a pink tag! It seems like forever since I've been able to participate in a challenge. This is sort of a triple challenge for myself. I made the pink tag, I used the "bleeding tissue" method that you have all been talking doing and that's a "new to me" method!
One of Hilary's nicknames has always been "Pinkie". It's really much pinker (is that a word?) than this, especially the ribbon, but I'm still not very good with this computer- picture-editing-stuff.

Char, your tag is great! I like how you raised the flowers. The 'friends' background is a nice look for this.
I love your tag, KV! Adding a picture is a great idea and she's wearing 'pink'. :p Those ribbons are perfect for this tag ... the little white pom-poms are too cute.

There have been so many WONDERFUL Pink Tags! Is there a chance that they'll eventually end up in the Idea Gallery? It would be nice to have a file of just the Pink Tags so that you can look at them all at once. ;)
BTW- Char? What is Hil? (As mentioned in your comment on KVM's tag)
Greetings!
Yes, that's Hil (short for Hilary, my daughter), when she was about 4. She loves sparkle and always has so yes, that is glitter glue on there too.
Thanks everyone and I neglected to say how much I like everyone else's also! So much variety! So much fun!!!

Pink is a real stretch for me - my comfort zone is autumn colors, greens and golds mostly. I played with this tag using a layered masking and sponging technique I teach in one of my stamping classes - "Sponge, Stipple, Speckle and Blow." I would like it better if I could use my favs, but this is a good exercise

Mom - What a tag. It works with the pinks. I really like the effect. What is it called? Sponge, stipple speckle and Blow? How is this done? It looks like a leaf in stencil. Gives a cammoflouge look. I am sure I killed the spelling on that word - (army look).
Sorry. No dictionary near.
Thanks for sharing it.

Mom, as usual, you've come up with some cool for us!*wink* This time, you've used your tag with a different orientation than most of us, you've used your tag sideways, even tying your bows in a different place than most of us! VERY original, and definitely cool looking.*G* Thanks for sharing!!!*VBG*

Mom, really nice tag. I like your use of buttons, too, and how you use the smaller ribbons on your projects. I don't use much small ribbon like that and keep wanting to do something with it. It adds such a nice touch to things. Great tag!

HEre is how I did it. Run a piece of computer paper through the Xyron machine - repositionable adhesive cartrige - this is a good place to use a"used" sheet of 'puter paper, since you will be making masks with it. I used my Sizzix to punch numerous leaves.
Start with a piece of pale cardstock - your color choice. Or you can start with a plain manila tag. Place two or three leaves on the tag. These will be the ones that end up looking like they are on top, so placement is important. Sponge (or use your stipple brush) your palest color of dye ink all over the tag. Give it a little bit to dry some, then add 2-3 more leaves on top of what you have already done. Remember to have some leaves go off the edges of the tag. I cut the parts that stick over and use them on another egde. Don't take off the first masks! Sponge another, darker color dye ink. Use your tiny splatters stamp to stamp in your darkest color as well. Add another layer of leaves and stipple or sponge lightly the same, darkest color dye ink you just used to speckle. Start removing the masks, until you come to the first ones you put down. Using a very small stipple brush (I actually use a little bitty stencil brush.) Stipple, in gray ink, shadows around the "top" leaves. Remove the last stencils, and 'voila!' you have it!
In developing this look, I found that double sided repositionable tape works OK, but the more ink there is on the tag, the more difficutly there is in making it stick on the paper that feels dry but is really still a bit damp! Even with the xyron you may need to keep a toothpick handy to hold down a leaf tip that wants to pop up while you are spongeing or stippling.
Is that clear as mud?
Hugs,
mom
Greetings!
Thanks for the fabulous directions!! I've printed them out to put into my "I'm-going-to-do-this" folder.
That's me behind the ribbons, Darby. We were at Disneyland and I was holding onto Hilary who was standing on a wall to see the "Electrical Light Parade". Oh, and she was 5 or 6, not 4!
