I made a scrapbook page featuring our youngest son and a note he wrote his dad. Larry liked it so much, I took the page and page protector out of the album, and he is going to take it to work and put in in his locker. That way every time he opens the locker door he will see and enjoy not only Bob's note and picture, but also my scrapbooking "artistry" Eventually I will make other pages for him to display there, and he will return this one to the album so I can enjoy it again, too.

It got me thinking that I can move pages to other places, too. What if I made a "Page of the Month" spot to display a finished page, in a protector, of course, on the front of the fridge? Or what about on a centrally located bulletin board? This may spur me to get more pages finished!

-Mom

Hey, do they make frames to fit scrapbook pages??? If not, you might be able to pick up the stuff to make a 12 X 12 frame pretty cheaply.....that would be a cool way to display some of that great scrapart, too!:D You could stand a frame on a mantel, or hang it on a wall.....Oooo, I think that would look so cool in a well used hallway, to have a bunch of scrapbook pages hanging on the walls that everyone could check out on their way to other sections of the house! (And hang some down lower, so the young ones could see 'em, too.*G*)

Oh, I like the idea of scrapbook pages coming outta the book, Mom!;)

I love the idea of a scrapbook page of the month. I can have each of my boys help me make a page. We could display them in a page protector near our family calendar. At the end of the month, we can put them into an album. It'll be a great way to remember each month! Thanks for the idea.

Did you guys see Dee on DIY last night? She made memeory book marks. They were so kewl. I haven't started scrapbooking yet,but will have to get into this. I have tons of pictures, and just don't know where to start. I wish I would have started scrap booking before stamping, after 14 yrs of stamping,if I only knew back then about scrapbooking... :( I wouldn't have a ton of pictures in a box. Maybe after my sons are out of school this year and summer starts, maybe then I will have the time to start this wonderful thing called Scrapbooking.

Once you get into scrapbooking. you will find that it is as much an addiction as rubber stamping. You can start whereever the mood strikes you. I use the 3 ring binder type scrapbooks and page protectors a lot so that I can do any pictures I choose to and I can move the pages around as needed. You can do infant pictures and then graduation and then some in between and put them in where they need to go so they are in order according to the age of your children at the time. I have found that it works good for me that way.

Luvstamps,
That box of photos can be very intimidating! That's what I have. I went through all of my photos one night and sorted them by occasion. I then got a photo holder container at Michaels. I sorted everything in the box. I've now started a scrapbook for my older son. It's been easier that I thought it would be. I chose some colors and themes for the book & I'm into his second year. I figure the second year will be easier than the first year was. There aren't so many things to add in. I'm getting rather hooked on scrapbooking.

Thanks for the tips. This sounds like it's a lot easier that way,and less confussing by sorting. Thanks

You gals have just taken the first step into scrapbooking---deciding to do it, and organizing. It is a bit overwhelming at first because it seems there are so many pictures to do. But once you get going at it and get your feet wet, it is fun. You really get into it, and love to see what ideas you come up for your pages. The more you do, the more fun you have and it gets rather addicting. The more you do, the more you want to do.

The more I get into this, the more fun I'm having. Once I start getting into my pages, it is much less intimidating. It's kind of like a blank sheet of paper, it's so intimidating to look at, but once you get into it things become easier. I'm really enjoying viewing all of the photos and remembering each moment as I work on my pages.

I take pictures of activities with my grandchildren. Then I make copies so that I can make a page for each grandchild. Grandpa and grandma give the page to each one the next time they come to visit or we mail them. The kids put the pages on a bulletin board for a while before putting them into a book. It keeps us all close between visits.

Frames, Frames, Frames...
I don't to scrapBOOKS...I do scrapFRAMES. I have literally tons of framed pictures all over my house! I love to be able to walk in a room and look at my children, grandchildren, and family members. So when I started thinking about the scrapbooking craze I hesitated because I would have to take out books to look:D (My Dad is a camera nut and there are 50+ photo albums at my parents' home!!) My first attempts at scrapframes were the births of my four grandbabies. I use 11X14 frames and construct them as you would a scrapbook page. They hang on the wall at the top of the stairs so I see them everyday. Soon I will have to make room for grandbaby #5 due next month:)
My husband is retired Air Force so we have done A LOT of traveling. I am currently starting frames of our travels which will adorn the walls of our rather large family/rec room. These frames will be larger and being my husband is an accomplished woodworker, the sizes and types are limitless for my ideas! As with all scrapbookers, my mind is just reeling with ideas for my scrapframes. I am having so much fun!!

Can I ask, Grammaluey, when you do your scrapbook frames, do you do just one picture to a frame? Or do you do multiples??? This idea is not a daunting as going through boxes and boxes of photos to do an entire book.....one page at a time just seems so much easier!!!

In making my scrapframes I use more than one picture. In my grandbabies frames I used the "going home" picture as the focal point and then selected additional photos (incubator, being held by mommy, daddy, cousin, etc) to be placed around. In one frame I used various size copies of footprints on the birth certificate as photocorners. Other embellishments: hospital bracelet, ID from incubator, etc.
I am planning on making one frame to highlight "First Haircuts" with photos and hairclippings from each child...probably will hang in the main bath!!
My travel frames will include money, subway (tube, metro) ticket stubs, etc. along with not just pictures of famous landmarks, but "off the beatin' path" photos - which I have plenty of because we were always "getting lost" :D
I have to say, as I looked at the samples of scrapbook pages on numerous websites, I just couldn't understand why only one picture was used on a page. I LOVE pictures...sometimes less is more...but mostly more is best!!!

What a great idea!

I moved to the 12 X 12 format when I realized the 8 1/2 X 11 was too confining. Wow! My creativity can really soar with my space limited only by the size of the frame. I'm going to think about this for awhile.

Thanks, Grammaluey, for a super idea.

When my son played drums for the band that went on a youth retreat a couple of years ago, the gal who organized the trip made a framed scrapbook page for each of the people who helped her. Bob has it hanging on the wall in his room now. It is a great way to remember the fun, and it is colorful and arty, too.

I love your idea, Grammaluey! My son-in-law is handy, and I bet he would make me a couple of 12X12 page-size frames to hold my "page of the month" displays.

Mom

Just a little note about using frames for framing scrapbook pages...or what I call scrapframing :p Even though current scrapbook paper is sold in 8x11 or 12x12 sizes it is SO possible to go with odd size frames. If you colorblock your pages...why not colorblock in a larger sized frame?? Even seams from matching up the same design (or plain) paper can be masked as you would on your scrapbook pages...contrasting strips of paper, decorative border stickers, embellishments, etc.
I went with 11x14 frames for my grandbabies because it fit in with how I was planning to hang them on the wall. For my "world travels" frames I can go bigger because I am working with much more wall space. As with scrapbooking...you are only limited by your imagination. "Scrapframing" just gives you more space for your imagination to run wild!!

I started scrapbooking when we bought our first computer (which I am using right now, but not for much longer) and my digital camera. At first I only used the camera software, but then my husband bought me MS Picture It! I fell in love with it. Then I found out that I can print the pages out as if they were photos in photo sizes. Then I bought Art Explosion's Scrapbooking (for computers) and I haven't begun to find every option even though I have already filled two albums. Then there is the option of scanning scrapbooks into the computer and printing them off as photos and displaying them in lucite frames as you would a small photo.

I also scrapbook manually, but I still scan them into the computer b/c I live in NC, my Mother and daughter live in PA, and my in-laws live in FL. If I do a page manually, I scan it into the computer and I can mail it off to whom ever would appreciate it. When my granddaughter, Danielle, was born, I e-mailed her picture to everyone I knew (since I witnessed her birth). Then as my daughter would send me pictures, I would make a scrapbook page or two for me, but copy or scan them into the computer to email to her and print to send to my Mother. Since both sets of parents are getting up in age, they appreciate being kept up-to-date with pcitures.

Terri,
I'm glad you mentioned that you make your scrapbook pages on the computer! I've been meaning to try that for a while. I take most of my photos on my digital camera. It seems like it would be easy to print the photos and the page all at one time. It's good to know that those programs are good. Thanks for the information!
