Photo/scan upload limits

Looks like something is happening with the size limit of photos and scan files. I've got a msg into Super Matt. He fixed a problem for Wendy who had the same "file size too big warning" from the system. I'm checking to see if he increased the limit for all photos or just on a user by user incident. Blossom had hiccups too. So if anyone else has been having issues...you can let me know here. In the meantime, stand by and I'll post as soon as i hear back form Matt.

I have always had to into paint and resize my photos for this site. I usually resize them down to 450 pixels.

Thanks April for letting us know how you worked around this. Matt just said he's tweaked the settings so everyone should be able to post photos. But he didn't say the limit he used, so it's possible if any of you have super high resolution photos (like 12 megapixels) that might be beyond the photo upload limit. Let me know if you have any further issues and we'll come up with a solution. Oh and Blossom...Matt mentioned he forgot to include the Moderator's limits so yours, mine, TerriO and Loosluck were all still on the older setting. He's since changed it so you should be able to upload photos again.

I use my iPad and in photo section I size the photo smaller. And it has always worked.
But now it doesn’t. I tried today.

When I try to down load photo, it is saying it has to be 80kb, not 450

I don't know what kb means, but when I resize my pictures in paint, I go to pixels and type in 450. That is 450 pixels. That always seems to work for me.

I'm going to send Matt another poke. 80kb is not a big file.

FYI 80kb is pretty small. These measurements are confusing. Basically kb, mb, gb etc is for the entire file size... think of it as the volume of something. 80kb is about the size of a 3 page typed document. A 4x6 high res photo is about 900 kb.

It's possible 450 pixels (px) can also be labeled as the "volume" of a file as well but generally this measurement is shown a linear measurement. It gets confusing because it's a resolution thing...generally a tv or computer screen displays images at 72 pixels or dots per inch. A printed image has a higher resolution so magazines generally print at 600 pixels or dots per inch (dpi). So a 900 kb photo file can print (600 dots per inch) at 4x6 inches but will display on a computer screen at 16 x 24 inches ...or something like that. I'm not accurate with the conversions here but hopefully you get the idea. Yes its all confusing.

Ok. Enough "geek speak"!! OOXX
