OK guys, here's a little challence for you

Tag time!

Make 2 tags, one for birthday one for missing you.

Must be a brand new tag (not from your stash)
Post them by the 25th of January
Send it to someone you love or like or hate, just send it.

It would be nice if everyone in the club gives it a try.

LOL, Julie! As we await Loosy's response to your query, I'll share my 'what use' about tags witcha. OK?

I can't recall the first time I heard the term 'Tag Art', but I'm pretty sure it was when I began actively hanging out with stampers. I knew 'tagament' was a med., but WTH was 'Tag Art'?

Turns out it was exactly that--'art' made using 'tags' as the base. As I begin seeing what others were doing, I saw how many different types of tags artists were using. Tags came in lots of shapes, sizes & styles. Most were 'hangable', but some weren't. Some were folded (like cards); others were just flat singles.

In Commerce, tags are always 'attached' to something--clothing in stores, bags of clams in supermarkets, etc.

In 'Art', tags can certainly have a 'use', but for most crafters, they are just a fun form to work with--like ATCs, Inchies & such. Stamped, stenciled, embossed, punched & more, tags are fun to make.

That said, however, I too like having an occasional 'use' for my artsy stuff.

Other than 'gift' (to;from) tags, I enjoy making ones as bookmarks. They don't work with Kindles, but some of us still have real paper books.

Tags can hang from doorknobs. My faves are ones that say "Don't Bug Me!", but they can also be Holiday/Party Decorations.

Get the idea? Good! Glad I could help...

Julie, I use mine for birthdays, thank you, get well etc. I also have used them for a wedding shower. But as Daniel has told you they are used mostly for "Tag Art". Use them for bookmarks, I have several that I use only in my Bible. I hope you can see the many uses that we get for these great pieces of art.

I could def. use them for bookmarks. I'm a very utilitarian kind of person, so they have to have another use other than just pretty to look at! A big one would be kind of fun to use like a postcard(except you would put it in an envelope because of the strings/ribbons attached)

Great job Sheila! I especially like the Tim Holtz one. Of course, he is the one who got the whole tag craze going. Anyway I love them both. thanks for joining in.

LOL Loosy! Much as I appreciate Tim, I'm not quite prepared to give 'credit for the craze'.

Julie. I can so appreciate the 'pragmatic' take on crafting. The discussion of the difference between Craft & Art (note the Caps) has been going on for a long, long time. Thanks for bringing it up--truly!

The old view of 'crafts' was that they had to be in some way 'useful'--regardless of how decorative the finished item was. Art (Fine Art) did not have the same burden. Painting & Sculpture were always allowed to be 'use-free'.

It took a long time before we recognized that Craft & Art were not separate spheres.

Enough 'heavy'! Here's my entry, Mary. It could be a birthday tag or a missing you. What was really neat was using the Diamond Glaze on the 'monkey god'.

VERY nice Daniel and I really like the background "tile" that you used! That flying monkee stamp is a good one!! That makes sense about art and craft use. I always enjoy your little tidbits of history!

Thanks, Julie. The 'tile' part is a Bargello technique that StampWilly shared.

LOL on the 'flying' monkey!

Love your tag Daniel. You have a great flair for imagination. I am too uptight to think of flying monkeys.
